Lesson 13 – Hadeeth 9 – Whatever I have commanded you with

Try the quiz (it’s easier if you have read the explanation by Shaykh al Uthaymeen):

N40
Next week’s hadeeth contains some quotes from the Quraan:

  1. As salaamu alaikum,
Where is the information or answer to question 4 found? I didnt find it in the explanation.
    Jazak’Allah khairun

    1. Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. Jezaakilaahu khairan for asking.
Perhaps it might have been a little premature to have asked this question – perhaps I should have saved it for a little later on.

I guess I was thinking that it might be good to have some questions which required readers to process information a little more than simply answering by rote, but without departing from the explanation, and I wanted people to pay attention to the names of the great Companions who did the noble task of conveying the hadeeths to us and whose names are given before each hadeeth, may Allaah be pleased with them all.

I guess a person might have thought, “Abu Hurairah (radhi Allaahu anhu) narrated this hadeeth, so the answer cannot be ‘0’, and he didn’t narrate the first eight hadeeths, so the answer cannot be ‘36’. That only leaves two options, ‘2’ and ‘9’. I know that the next hadeeth is also narrated by him since I read that on the post below the link for the quiz. The question really is whether Abu Hurairah (radhi Allaahu anhu) narrated even one more hadeeth in the book, in which case the answer cannot be ‘2’. OR, I could look at it this way: Did he narrated a twentieth (‘2’) of the hadeeths in the book or almost a quarter (‘9’)? At least that narrows down the options.”

I hope that, even if anyone did not answer the question correctly, they might still have received two benefits: firstly, the correct answer and, secondly, a reminder to pay close attention to the name of the narrators of the hadeeths, without whom we would have no knowledge of the Sunnah, may Allaah reward them all.
